YMCA Toccoa

Upon request

from the YMCA in Toccoa, I removed the YMCA Toccoa Web Site from the World Wide Web yesterday (Monday, October 14, 2013.)
I was so sorry they had to close due to financial hardship. I know the economy is down, but it is sad to see such an important part of our community affected.

Thank you, YMCA Toccoa, for supporting our community in such a positive way. We will miss you!

Last Web Design Semester at NGTC

Yep, it's nearly over. I am taking College Algebra this semester and assisting in three Web classes, and then I graduate. Will I miss NGTC? No - and here's why: I have applied to begin this Spring in the Networking Degree program! So I will have two or three more semesters at NGTC.

I want to get a Networking Degree because that way I can learn all about servers. My goal is to be able to allow clients to log in to my server to view my unpublished work, including, but not limited to, their site in progress.

Another purpose in getting a Networking Degree is the high probability that I will attend Southern Poly in the not-to-distant future in order to earn a Bachelor Degree.

Yes, I love all things computer, but I am not as interested in laying cable as I am in other areas! LOL

As to school: I still maintain my 4.0 - though Algebra may bring that down a tinge - and I hope to be just as successful in Networking. (I have had to work hard for those A's, and I am proud of them - especially at my age and in my field of study. But remember, even though I am 55, I grew up around computers and my dad did programming - so it must be in my blood!)

Speaking of age - - -
Remember: Wisdom comes with age - sometimes age just comes by itself! LOL

Until next post...

My, time flies when you're having fun!

Today is Sunday, July 14, 2013...

School just started and already this semester is nearly over. Tomorrow starts the beginning of the final three weeks!! I can't believe how fast ten weeks has gone! But I also remember the short five week summer semester we had when NGTC transitioned from Quarters to Semesters - now THAT was a short semester!!!

I have really enjoyed this semester. I miss not taking any Web classes, as I have already taken all of them, but I am enjoying helping in the Web classes I have already taken. I hope I have made a difference in at least one student's life. I certainly have enjoyed the students!

This semester, Mr. Long gave me an entirely new and very fun assignment of creating new Web sites for his classes. I have put a lot of thought, time, effort, and energy (smile) into the first site, which is for Computer Concepts (CIST 1001), and I have really enjoyed it! In this site, I have not used the "<canvas>" tag (in html5) yet, but I am getting ready to add an element. I am not sure what or how - but it will be fun!! But I have done some other fun stuff - web home page gives the current date (JavaScript); mouse roll-over a couple of places; opacity changes; photo enlargements; back-ground image; mapping; and other such stuff. But the coolest thing is a Google map Mr. Long created using JavaScript which I then incorporated into a page. Mr. Long is great!!

I love my Work-Study position!!

Well, it is time to get back to Math homework... tomorrow starts another fun-filled and very busy Work-Study day, so I have to get my homework done tonight!

First day of Summer Semester 2013 a success!!

Yep, I'm back at school...

Today was great: I am back with all my friends and teachers at NGTC for another fun (but hard) semester! I am excited about my schedule.

I only have one class (Tuesdays and Thursdays; Math class), but I have the Work Study position and so I am helping out in other classes. Dreamweaver (Web Technologies), Advanced Photoshop (Web Graphics II), and HTML5 (Web Development) are the classes I am helping in. And, since I love to build Web pages, create Web sites, and enhance photos using Photoshop, I am one happy camper this semester! I also get to help Mr. Long and Mrs. Black!! (I love being involved and being busy!)

Yeah, it's going to be a great semester!

Web Design progress...

As I have already had all the Web Design classes offered at NGTC, and am now "in business" designing Web pages, I find helping in all these classes to be a great way to stay up to date and fresh with everything I've learned.

And, yes, I still love designing Web sites and Web pages.

What's the difference? Well, to me, designing a Web site is an in-depth procedure that involves understanding the company, the mission statement of the company, the company goals, and the desired target audience. It's all the work that goes on behind the scenes. It is designing multiple pages with all of that in mind.

Whereas designing a Web page, to me, is adding a page to an existing site - a site created by me or by someone else. Or, it could be updating an already existing site, possibly bringing the code up to date, or changing the layout, or both.

Either way, any way, every way: I love doing this!! LOL

Okay: off to school...

End of Spring Semester 2013

Spring has sprung and the semester has leapt over the wall! (Yeah, I am on break. Smile. Summer Semester begins May 20.)

For me, the last day of the semester was April 29, when I had my English 1102 Final. I was pleased with my grade on the Final (a 95) as well as for the course (a 97), but I am now glad to get a rest from school.

I have been very busy this semester with Web jobs; even now, I am working on the YMCA site - been up all night working on documentation...

Plans during break...

So what do I have planned during break? Glad you asked! First, I will continue going to work at NGTC (Work Study position) and working on Web sites. But I also have some other projects I want to do... I also hope to visit two friends; one out of town, the other out of state. Hopefully that will work out. Oh, and don't forget my family - I hope to catch up with them, too! LOL

And then there is my office which is in need of straightening... LOL (It's not too bad, just getting hard to find paperwork I need.) I have to make that a priority!!

No Other News to Tell, Except:

I am still square dancing - had a dance class today. I am now learning the left side (men's part) so that: one, I can dance more often as I do not have a regular partner; and two, other ladies without partners can also dance more often. Yes, I prefer dancing the right side (ladies' part), but it is great to be versitle. And, as I go up in level, being able to dance from either position will have its advantage!

That is all I have to offer tonight!

Another Successful Web Site Online

YMCA Toccoa

Check out the new YMCA Toccoa Web Site: http://www.ymcanorthgeorgia.com/. Yep, that's my work. You will find my credit (Su-Jobi Web Design) on the Site Map page.

Creating the YMCA Web Site was fun, challenging, and rewarding. It was great experience; I look forward to many more great jobs like this one!

(Check out the site map for http://www.tuckertowndental.com/siteMap.php; my credentials are there, as well.)

I am excited to have two jobs coming up, as soon as this semester is over, and a possible third.

Web Designing

Of course the more Web designing I do, the better I get; but, the more I do it, the more I love it! And since I started out really loving it, you know I'm crazy about it now!

It is wonderful to so love my work; it is a delight to sit at my computer - hours on end because I don't even want to take breaks - and realize that this is my brain in use, my creativity, my work! Yes, I am definitly hooked!

So, if you need a Web Site: call Sue at Su-Jobi Web Design, 706-949-6035. Maybe I am the Web Designer you need!

School...

School progesses... not a lot of news as to academics and classes - just the same old stuff; however, I am now holding a Work Study position: CIST Lab Assistant. I am working for the CIST Advisors/Instructors. I love it!

Spring semester is nearly over. Next semester I only have one class plus the Work Study position; I'll have plenty of time for grandchildren and designing web pages!

In the mean time, I hope you have a great summer!

Web Success!!

Tucker Town Dental...

I have a web site successfully loaded onto the Web!! Check this out: http://www.tuckertowndental.com/.

Please understand:
       1. Client gives explicit, detailed instructions - I do what they want!
       2. Client designs/provides business logo - I simply insert!
       3. My job is to meet the requirement of the client -though I do have some liberty!

This was a great job experience because I took someone's old site and completely re-vamped it. That was quite a challenge! In the process, I first changed it to html5 and then decided php would be even better. Smile. I really enjoyed it, and I learned a lot.

I had input and help from a professional, Charles Jordan, owner of Digital Deadbolt Computer Software. Charles was great! He never lost patience with me and was always willing to "talk shop!" (Even once when he and his wife were out to dinner!) Thank you, Charles, for all the middle-of-the-night phone conversations that were so beneficial to me. I love working with you!

Upcoming Jobs...

I have three Web jobs ahead: Toccoa YMCA; Ecclasia Consulting Ministry; and a site for Photographer Melissa Henderson, a NGTC Photography student who is VERY good.

Last fall, Melissa had an opportunity to work three weeks with a famous fashion photographer, Lou Freeman. Freeman then invited Melissa on a 13 week world tour with her. Obviously Freeman was impressed with Melissa's work.

I feel honored that Melissa has chosen me to create her web page.

Thank you's...

I want to take a minute to thank everyone who has taught me Web Design "stuff" - coding, database, Adobe Creative suite, Notepad++, and tips - as well as shown me where to go online to get really neat widgets. To all my teachers, friends, peers, classmates,  and even the fellow programmers I meet in Computer Programming (book) sections in stores, and so forth: a very BIG thank you for the input (pun intended) you make in my Web Design knowledge base and career. I couldn't have made it this far without you!

In closing (for today)...

I LOVE Web Designing, and I look forward to learning more as I progress!!

By the way, I met Mr. Charles Jordan in the book section for computer programming in MicroCenter!! LOL You just never know how, when, why, and where God is going to put someone in your life!! Thank you, Father God!!

Spring Semester Midterm, already???

I just can't believe it is midterm - the semester is just flying by!!! Life is going too fast - would somebody please slow it down for me??!! LOL

School...

School is both wonderful and terrible this semester. :) Let me explain...

School is wonderful. I only have two classes and am helping in two classes I have already taken, so my schedule is great. I am taking English 1102, which is a Literature class with Mrs. Smith. I had her for English 1010 back when I was a diploma student, and I really like her. We are doing quite a bit of writing - essays and card reports - and we are studying short fiction, poetry and drama. The two classes I am helping in are taught by Mr. Long; they are CIST 1510 (html5) and CIST 1530 (Photoshop). The other class I am taking, which was supposed to be Algebra, falls into the "school is terrible" category. (Smile)

I started the semester in Algebra but, due to the long (should I say LONG) years since I used or studied Algebra, I was NOT getting it, so I switched into a remedial math class (Math 0090) starting at the Algebra Module. I have struggled and struggled with - something, not sure exactly what - but obviously not getting it. I am STILL in the same module and here it is week 8 in the semester!! I have had help on a number of occassions; and, I have had some kind of a mental block - not sure what - that has hindered me in advancing. I think I have FINALLY gotten past the mental block and whatever it was I was struggling with and hopefully I will be able to move forward rather quickly now.

I don't know what my problem was - and you'd sure never know I made straight A's in high school Algebra and was the student teacher!!

So, back to school being "terrible" this semester: I will still have ONE more semester before I can graduate because I have to take college Algebra to get my degree!! SO, NGTC is not getting rid of me yet!! LOL

On another note: Web Designing

I have been getting Web Design jobs - which I am very happy about.

Right now I am working on one for a dentist in Tucker, GA. I am also working on a contract with an organization/client, have an interview soon with another client, and have another client on hold "until I have time" - the client understands I am a working student. So business is picking up. I am thankful as students are always broke!!!

Finally - my health

Last semester, about the middle of October, I came down with severe, chronic bronchitis. I missed several days of school but managed to finish in good standing. I was sick during Thanksgiving - and Christmas - and New Years - and was still sick when Spring semester began but managed to make it to school the first week or two. I was then out three consecutive weeks (with a doctor's excuse) while trying not to get behind! I am FINALLY well and it feels wonderful! Better than wonderful!! I praise God for giving me back my health. I still have to be careful, lest I have a setback, but I am happy to be "back in the land of the living."

So, life goes on, whizzing by as fast as it can - and I am not getting any younger!!

Would somebody please slow it down?! LOL!!
